Welcome to the latest episode of Grow Food Here, brought to you by Freight Farms! In this installment, we shine a spotlight on the remarkable efforts of Broadview Federal Credit Union in Albany, NY, as they embark on a journey to revolutionize food production in their community.

MHUSD is also one of the first school districts in the nation to use Freight Farms FarmTech, a program for two freight containers at MHUSD’s high schools. These containers produce 450 pounds of spring mix lettuce per week and can grow 8,000 heads of lettuce from just one shower’s worth of water.

Container farming, also known as shipping container farming, is revolutionizing how we grow crops. It offers an innovative solution to traditional farming methods, allowing individuals to cultivate fresh produce in confined urban spaces or areas with limited access to arable land. 

The community farm’s headquarters is located in West L.A. in a similarly space-saving location – inside a shipping container at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. “It’s pretty remarkable. It’s the equivalent of two and a half acres of outdoor production inside one shipping container, using about 90% less water and 95% less land,” Levy said.

Urban farming within educational settings has seen a significant upswing in recent years. Schools across the globe are increasingly turning to agriculture as a dynamic teaching tool that offers students a unique perspective on where food comes from and how sustainable practices can be integrated into daily life.

Growcer develops vertical farms in modular containers to help combat food insecurity in challenging climates. Growcer said it has over 80 farms across the country growing more than 10 million servings of leafy greens annually.

Community-supported agriculture programs boomed during the pandemic, but the seeds were cultivated decades beforehand.

The second thing I would do is call the CEO of Musk’s ‘The Boring Company, and the CEO of Freight Farms. Just eleven years ago Freight Farms began installing a hydroponic farm inside a standard freight container. It just happens that a freight container will fit inside The Boring Company’s tunnel that is 12 feet in diameter.

The farms can be in built in warehouses, greenhouses or, in the case of BoomaFood, specially designed shipping containers. The farms use artificial light, temperature, water and humidity control, meaning they can provide more food on a smaller footprint than traditional farming.

A new system at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is providing hundreds of pounds of fresh produce for animals each week. The zoo is using shipping containers outfitted with hydroponic growing systems, making it possible to grow romaine and kale on-site.

Nature's Miracle Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: NMHI) ("Nature's Miracle"), a leader in vertical farming technology and infrastructure, today announced the successful manufacturing and shipment of its first two customized container farms in its proprietary "MiracleTainer" series to Growterra, LLC, an Ohio-based vertical farming company.
